a painter Eugene Klementieff. Pom was her nickname because it sounds similar to
the Korean words "spring" and 'tiger" in Korean. Klementieff
lived in Canada for one year before her family was able to travel extensively
because of her father's job. They resided in Japan and the Ivory Coast, before
settling in France. Klementieff's father, who died in the age of five from
cancer was her mother. Additionally, she suffered from schizophrenia and was
unable to care for her children. Klementieff was raised with her paternal uncle
and aunt. Her uncle, who she stated in her own words as "like her father
from childhood," died on Klementieff’s 18th birthday. Her older brother
died seven years after his death. This occasion, it occurred on the 25th
anniversary of her birth. Klementieff was a student at law school for a short
time after the death of her uncle in order to placate her aunt, but did not
find the academic option attractive. In France, she worked as a waitresse and
saleswoman. At the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris she started her acting
career when she was 19. In the early stages of her training, she was awarded a
theater competition that awarded her classes for two years with the school's
best teachers. Her first acting gig professionally was the French independent
film Apres lui (2007), acting as the stepdaughter in the film of the main
character, which was played by Catherine Deneuve. The production of the film
took three days. In one scene, she was to help push someone down a set of steps
but accidentally fell down the steps herself, and director Gael Morel recorded
that scene in the film. Her first lead role was in Loup (2009) the French film
that follows a tribe of reindeer herders who live in the Siberian mountains.
She filmed for hours in an isolated camp, far from the closest village. The
temperatures dropped to minus zero during filming.
