Sofia Margarita Vergara, Spanish was born on July 10, 1972. She is an actress presenter, producer, model and TV presenter from Colombia. Vergara was the highest-paid actress on American television from 2013 to 2020. Vergara rose in prominence as host of two shows on Univision's Spanish-language TV network in the early 1990s. Chasing Papi (2003) was her first significant acting role in English. In the following years, she was a part of Four Brothers (2006) and Tyler Perry's comedy Come To Jail (2008). She was nominated for an ALMA Award for the former. She was first seen as Gloria Delgado–Pritchett on ABC's comedy series Modern Family, for which she was awarded four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards and eleven Screen Actor Guild Awards. Her voice-over roles included Happy Feet Two (2011) and Escape from Planet Earth (2013). She was also part of The Emoji Movie (2017). Vergara was born into an Roman Catholic family in Barranquilla.  Her mother, Margarita Vergara de Vergara, was a homemaker, and her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, was a rancher of cattle for the meat industry. Her nickname was "Toti" by her siblings, as well as a number of cousins. Vergara began her dental studies for three years at National University of Colombia, but she was two semesters away from completing her degree to pursue opportunities in modeling and show business.
